The Samsung Galaxy S7 may come with a pressure sensitive display and a USB Type-C port, according to The Wall Street Journal. “People familiar with the matter” also told the publication that the some versions of the upcoming flagship device could come with a retina scanner. They also said that the Galaxy S7 will be offered with a curved-screen version of the phone called the Galaxy S7 Edge. In addition, the publication said that the device is expected to be announced in February during the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona. The reason for the accelerated timeline is an “apparent attempt to capitalize on the buzz around the device.” The publication also says that the Galaxy S7 will come with a camera that is optimised for low light photography and will be flush with the back instead of bulging out.
Samsung has already applied for a patent for a pressure sensitive display similar to 3D Touch that is used in the Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. So it is quite possible that the technology could be used in the Galaxy S7. There were also rumors suggesting that the company could launch the phone early in the year. Last month, the company had unveiled a new camera called BRITECELL, which focused on improving image quality in low light conditions. The new camera will also be 17% thinner than other cameras.
A video showing the 3D render of the Samsung Galaxy S7 was released by uSwitch a few days ago. The render was based on blueprints supplied to third-party accessory manufacturers and a couple of details do not match the information provided by The Wall Street Journal. For one, the render shows a prominent camera bulge on the back of the device. The video also suggested that the phone will have a standard microUSB port instead of a USB Type-C port. Other rumors have suggested that Samsung will launch multiple variants of the Galaxy S7. One of the variants may be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, while the other may have a Exynos 8890 SoC. The upcoming phone has also been tipped to be 10% cheaper than the Galaxy S6.
